Invisible Words (2018), a fantasy for guitar and piano by the composer Eduardo Morales-Caso, dedicated to the exceptional performers Anders Clemens Øien, guitarist, and Teresa Vilaplana Maza, pianist, explores that universe of resonances in which the guitar and the piano merge into a single timbre – the latter becoming an expansion, extension, and timbral enrichment of the guitar. In this unusual chamber combination, the composer Eduardo Morales-Caso meticulously attends to the physical-acoustic phenomena that define these two very dissimilar natures, achieving an extraordinary balance and an indivisible sonic unity, in which the “egos of interpretative individuality,” so markedly present throughout history, do not exist. Subtle textures shaped by “colour” and profound beauty establish the communicative principle of Invisible Words.
MIRADA A LA INFINITUD | Fantasy for Guitar (2021)
Hana Watanabe | Guitar
Commissioned by the Spanish Guitar Society
Recorded in Tokyo, Japan, and mastered in Madrid on March 19, 2026
Sound engineer: Luis del Toro Modolell
Total time: 9:35
In Mirada a la infinitud (Fantasy for Guitar, 2021; a tribute to Ferdinand Hodler), a work commissioned by the Spanish Guitar Society, composer Eduardo Morales-Caso draws inspiration from the Swiss painter’s art, evoking Plato’s vision of the idea of the infinite: a realm in which everything is possible and where “true contemplation must be directed toward the World of Ideas or Forms, which are immutable and eternal.”
The exceptional Japanese guitarist Hana Watanabe delivers a performance that is profound, subtle, and powerful, rich in imagination and supported by a solid technical and interpretative command. Her reading immerses us in the musical language – deeply expressive and rigorous – of an established composer such as Eduardo Morales-Caso, whose catalogue for classical guitar is both substantial and widely recognized on the international guitar scene.
